The Oh Hellos at Chicago’s Thalia Hall

The Oh Hellos concert, Chicago, Thalia Hall

I’m headed out to celebrate my end of the wedding season this evening at The Oh Hellos concert at Thalia Hall in Chicago with my favorite harpist, Meg Rodgers, and it occurred to me, I never posted these photos from the last time I saw The Oh Hellos in July of 2014.

Joined on stage by Judah and the Lion and Family and Friends, the concert was, hands down amongst the best I’ve ever seen and at twelve dollars per person, you know they are doing it for the love of their art.  The cohesively passionate group of performers gave unforgettable, all-in performances.

Despite being wooed by major record labels, The Oh Hellos lead by brother and sister duo, Tyler and Maggie Heath, have chosen to remain independent and true to their creative vision for their music.  Their debut single, “Hello My Old Heart”, went viral organically through social media in 2011 and the group has gained momentum and an increasing following since.

Joined on stage by an 11-piece band, the multi-layered acoustics of accordions, violins, guitars, banjos and multiple percussionists filled the intimate venue with a melodic texture that really can’t be reproduced in a studio environment.  The small theatre is an incredible venue for music connoisseurs.  We’re looking forward to an equally exhilarating performance tonight!
